The fitting (1) is formed by an elongated piece of material, shaped in the form of a piece of guttering, which has a transverse cross section in the form of a V. It is fitted over the edge of the rim (113) of the wheel (115), as the tyre is to be removed. The fitting is curved along its length in such a way as to present an internal face (7) which is concave. The fitting is made from a flexible material, which is softer than the material of the wheel rim and is generally made from a thermoformed plastics material. The length (l) of the fitting is preferably greater than 100 mm and the thickness (e) of the material is preferably between 2.5 and 3.5 mm. The thickness reduces towards the edges of the fitting down to between 1.5 and 2 mm.
