The cylinder has a housing (2) in which a primary (3) and secondary (4,4') piston slide. The primary piston bounds a first pressure chamber (11) and the rear piston part (5) protrudes out of the housing through an opening (6). The housing has an opening (35) which is closed by a cover (20). The cover is connected to the housing by radial, inwardly directed sections (33). These sections are radially inwardly formed axial projections (34) of the housing which grip one or more radial projections (32) of the cover. The connection (15,28) for a return flow container is arranged in the area of the pressure chamber.
