It is proposed to produce a fibre-reinforced plastics external rotor (1) for an electric machine by an injection moulding process, the rotor (1) having a rim element (7) carrying circumferentially spaced permanent magnets (11) and flux-guiding wedges (13) and a flange element (9) projecting radially from the rim element (7) towards the axis of rotation (5). The reinforcement of the rim element (7) has reinforcing fibres running in a circumferential direction in edge regions, (19, 21, 23) and fibres in intersecting directions at an angle of less than 45 DEG to the circumferential direction in an intermediate region. The flange element (9) is reinforced in its edge regions by stacks of reinforcing mats (33) of which the angle of intersection of the reinforcing fibres is not equal to 90 DEG , these reinforcing mats (33) being angularly offset from one another in a circumferential direction.
