Flavouring devices and methods

Methods and devices for flavouring liquids are disclosed. Flavouring solids (2) such as particulate coffee solids are packed into an impermeable container (116), preferably occupying most or all of the available volume. Absorbed in the solids is a quantity of extractant liquid, preferably alcoholic liquor but others are possible. The amount of extractant is no more than can be taken up by the solids (2), there is no free liquid. The extractant pre-extracts flavouring components from the solids (2). One or more seals (12b) are removable to expose openings of the container. The openings may be closed by an integral filter (14), or a filter may be provided by an auxiliary device which holds the container (11b). With the seals (12) removed, the solids charge (2)can be rinsed with liquid to be flavoured, washing out the pre-extracted flavouring components. <IMAGE>
