PURPOSE: To provide an electrodeless discharge lamp lighting apparatus which can lessen the stress to a high frequency oscillation circuit from a time when an electrodeless discharge lamp starts lighting to the time when the lighting becomes stable and makes the electrodeless discharge lamp start lighting and carry out stable lighting. CONSTITUTION: D.c. voltage applied to a PIN diode is so controlled by a matching control circuit 6 as to make the resistance value to a high frequency signal of the PIN diode high at the time of the start of an electrodeless discharge lamp 1 and make the resistance value to the high frequency signal of the PIN diode low at the time of stable lighting of the electrodeless discharge lamp 1 and at the same time make the total resistance value of those of an induction cil 2 and the PIN diode almost constant. Consequently, an electrodeless discharge lamp lighting apparatus is obtained which can lessen the stress to a high frequency oscillation circuit from a starting time and immediate after lighting of the electrodeless discharge lamp to the time when the lighting becomes stable and at the same time which makes the starting of the electrodeless discharge lamp easy.
