摘要 PURPOSE: To obtain highly improved and stabilized magneto-optical properties by incorporating at least one element selected from Zr and Hr into the garnet containing Fe. CONSTITUTION: In this garnet, it is a problem that the Fe ions originally required to have a valence of +3 are liable to change into those having a valence of +2 depending on the conditions at the time of producing the garnet, etc. To solve this problem, at least one element selected from Zr and Hf is added to the garnet contg. Fe. the stable ion state of a valence of +4 of Zr or Hf causes no change in valence of any other element and since the atomic radii of both Zr and Hf are a little larger than that of Fe, Zr and/or Hf atoms an stably occupy the sites adjacent to Fe atoms. Accordingly, the magneto- optical properties such as extinction ratio, Faraday ration angle, etc., of the garnet is prevented from being deteriorated.
