Known is a communication system (1) in which synchronous and asynchronous traffic is exchanged between stations (10, 11) using a common communication path (19). The known system (1) has a complicated controlling mechanism for controlling fair allocation of asynchronous traffic. A communication system (1) of the above kind is proposed having a simple fairness mechanism for fair allocation of asynchronous traffic to the stations (10, 11) without a scheduler being necessary. To this end, the communication system (1) exchanges information between the stations (10, 11) via the communication path (19) in a frame (30) of synchronous time slots (TS0 to TS7) and an asynchronous time slot (ATS), the synchronous time slots (TS0 to TS7) comprising an access bit (AB) for demanding access to the asynchronous time slot (ATS). All stations (10, 11) monitor all access bit (AB) of the other stations (10, 11) and set their own access bit (AB) in accordance to a set of fairness rules.
|
