The invention concerns a two-stage method for the preparation of aqueous, selfcrosslinking copolymer dispersions made from acrylate copolymers having acetoacetyl and carboxylic groups, the copolymers being neutralized with polyamines which act as crosslinking agents. The invention also concerns the use of such copolymers in paints as binders which crosslink at room temperature or at elevated temperatures.
