A flat piece (7a,7b), such as a pinion, used during the grinding operation of a bore (118a,118b) along a determined grinding axis (5) is held in position by a holder (1). The holder support (20), defining a cage (62), has a longitudinal axis (21) coinciding with the grinding axis (5) and a first transverse longitudinal support face (115) for the piece. A longitudinal hole (68) in this support face provides a passage for the grinding tool (4). A second transverse longitudinal support face (166), opposite the first support face, holds the piece longitudinally against the first support piece facing its longitudinal hole. A longitudinal hole (168) in the second support face allows passage of the grinding tool. The second support face is movable longitudinally relative to the first support.
