A connector comprises a base 1 and a cover 2 hinged to one end of the base 1. A counterpart 100 is sandwiched between the base 1 and cover 2 for connection and is retained, for example by a latch keeper 27 of the cover. The angle of rotation of the cover is limited, for example by linkwork 4. The connection face of the connector may have a V-shaped connector-receiving recess 12 in which contacts 3 are resiliently mounted. The base 1 may be attached to a modem card or to the base or lid of a portable computer, in which case the cover may be flush-mounted when closed and the connector with the cover closed may have a thickness the same as the card. The base may be hinged to a card so that cards may be mounted close together (figures 34, 35, not shown).
