PURPOSE: To produce a Ti-Al intermetallic compound-base alloy having characteristics well balanced among ductility, high temp. strength and toughness by applying working to e.g. a Ti-Al binary alloy having specific Al content under specific conditions to pulverize, and then performing lamellar forming treatment. CONSTITUTION: A Ti-Al binary alloy consisting of 42-52 atomic % Al and the balance Ti, or a Ti-Al alloy in which a part of Ti is substituted by at least one element among Mo, Mn, V, Cr, Nb, W and Si by <=10 atomic % in total, is worked in anα-Ti single phase region higher than 1300 deg.C at >=1/sec strain rate to pulverize. Then, lamellar forming treatment is performed by forming lamellars of TiAl and Ti3 Al in the inner part of the resultant fine crystalline grains to form a fine lamellar grain structure. By this method, the Ti-Al intermetallic compound-base alloy, having characteristics of >= about 2% ductility at ordinary temp., >= about 32kgf/mm<2> 0.2%-yield strength at 800 deg.C, and >=about 60kgf/mm<2> fracture toughness, can be obtained.
