PURPOSE: To improve the character display function of tabular work by setting an area where data is not outputted as a cell of the generated tabulation, determining an area where data can be arranged from the area, and displaying the data. CONSTITUTION: A CPU 6 controls respective parts of the device on the basis of a control program stored in a ROM 7 by using a RAM 8 as a work area. Then the CPU 6 generates cells by using a ruled-line editing function for the tabular work representing a table as part of a document and inputs characters to the cells by using a character editing function. Here, the CPU 6 determines the area where data is not outputted as a cell of the tabular work, determines the area where data can be outputted from the set area, and displays the data in the determined area. The data arrangeable area is found from the rectangle of the cell and top and bottom, and right and left margin values, and those margin values are plus inside the rectangle of the cell and minus outside the rectangle to give a margin for displaying a character which is not displayed just in the cell. |
