PURPOSE: To shift down a gear during a travel along a downward slope, pertinently depending on a driver's request. CONSTITUTION: When a downward slope judgement device 12 identifies that an accelerator opening TVO is kept at zero, the first-order differential value dVSP/dt of a travel speed VSP is positive and the second-order differential value d<2> VSP/dt<2> of the speed VSP is zero, a delay time is calculated by use of the value of VSP and the prescribed relationship. In this case, when a vehicle is judged as travelling on inertia after the lapse of the delay time so obtained, the device 12 sends a shift instruction signal to a controller 9, and the gear of an automatic transmission 1 is shifted down under control by the controller 9. |
