PURPOSE: To provide sealing structure endurable to bulging of a can in charge/ discharge without adversely affecting an inside electrode group in a square battery and also endurable to increase in internal pressure caused by gasification of an electrolyte in an abnormal condition such as short circuit by conducting sealing work in two portions in specific constitution. CONSTITUTION: A sealed square nonaqueous electrolyte battery comprises an electrode group 2, an outer can 1 for housing the electrode group 2, a sealing cover group 3 having a pressure releasing valve mechanism 4 acting when internal pressure of the battery is increased, a packing 9, a holding plate 7, an inner cap 8, an over-current, over-heating protecting element 6, and a terminal plate 5. The sealing cover group 3 is held by an outer can opening part at an outside seat part of the packing 9, the outer can and the gasket are drawn in the projection part of the holding plate 7, or between the thick part of the packing 9 from the outside as first sealing work. The opening parts of the outer can and the packing 9 are bent inward in the circumferences of the upper projection, the over-current, over heating protecting element, and the terminal plate 5 as second sealing work. |
