PURPOSE: To eliminate ill influence of solvent or binder on an electron emitting element in the drying and provisional baking processes, simplify the processes, and enhance the assembly precision by provisionally baking a low melting point glass for fixing a spacer in advance on the joint part on one side or both sides of the spacer. CONSTITUTION: Float glass is machined and polished and therewith a front plate 1, back plate 2, and supporting frame 3 are fabricated, while a blue sheet glass is polished so that the thickness is several hundreds of microns and thereby a spacer 5 is provided. Frit at the front is of crystalline while a frit of LS-7105 is used at the rear, and these are mixed with solution prepared by dissolving acrylic resin inα-turbineol, and thus frit paste is produced. The paste is applied to the two joining surface of a spacer 204, followed by drying and provisional baking, and thus frit 206 is formed. The frit with a spacer is located on the front plate and fixed, followed by baking, and one side is adhered. A combination of a supporting frame 209 and a back plate 202 is placed on the front plate 201, followed by pressurization and another baking as regular process. After completion of assembly, an air exhaust pipe is sealed, and an image display device is achieved.
