Mixed crystals are made in a high frequency zone melting process using an appts. in which a rod-shaped body (2) made of one of the components of the mixed crystal is rotated as it is moved longitudinally. Loose material of the second component of the mixed crystal is poured into a central opening (3) of the rod at a defined rate as the area (6) is melted by the HF inductor (6).
