Broaching and contouring process

The broaching and contouring process involves using at least one swarf-producing cutter (11) on a tool carrier, moving it axially with offset turning axis. During its movement round the workpiece, the cutter is deflected from a pure circular path in the radial plane so that the contour is produced from the relative motion of the cutter tip against the rotating workpiece (1).The workpiece and tool carrier may both rotate in the same direction. The tool carrier may be fitted with a number (n) of cutters, of which the running angle (alpha,beta,gamma) are such that alpha = 360 deg /n 1/2beta 1/2gamma.
