Apparatus for cutting a workpiece W has a work support table 3 which is movable only in one horizontal X direction, and a spindle unit 72 including a cutting tool which is disposed below the table for cutting the work from below. The spindle unit 72 is movable in another horizontal direction perpendicular to the direction X in which the table 3 is movable, and in a vertical Z direction.
