PURPOSE: To obtain a novel steroid which is useful for a cosmetic and an anticancer agent because of its keratinization enzyme promotion action and anticancer action by reaction of 20-formyl-6-oxo-2,3,14,20-tetrahydroxypregn-7-ene with a Grignard's agent. CONSTITUTION: This novel steroid is (+)-2β,3β,20β(22R)-pentahydroxy-(24S)- methyl-5β-cholest-7-ene-6-one having keratinization enzyme promotion and antitumor actions, thus is useful as an active ingredient in cosmetics, particularly scalp hair cosmetics and an anticancer agent. This steroid is obtained by reaction of 2-methyl-isovaleryl magnesium bromide (a Grignard's reagent obtained from 2-methylisovaleryl bromide and magnesium) with 20-formyl-6-oxo-2,3,14,20- tetrahydroxypregn-7-ene.
