PURPOSE: To produce self-sintering carbon having stable quality by an easy process with high reproducibility as well as to inhibit the foaming of mesophase pitch during heat treatment and to enhance production efficiency and operability when self-sinterable carbon is produced by heat-treating mesophase pitch. CONSTITUTION: Mesophase pitch is heat-treated under coexistence of an arom. nitro compd., nitric acid, quinonedioxime or a nonmetallic salt of nitric acid, nitrous acid, peroxonitric acid, sulfuric acid, sulfurous acid, peroxosulfuric acid or peroxodisulfuric acid to produce the objective self-sinterable carbon. |
