Appts. to shape and dispense portions of a paste material, esp. ice cream, comprises a working head to fill and empty a chamber, with a space formed by a rotary scoop. The head (2,8,10) has a spout opening (14) at one end of the feed channel, the scoop (8) defines the wall of the channel and the opening (14) can be at the pole of the scoop (8) when the chamber is filled from the front, or at the scoop axis (12) when the feed enters the chamber at a tangent.
