A cutter head is supported on a front portion of a main frame to be inclined relative to a vertical plane at a predetermined angle. Also, provided on the main frame are a roof support disposed in a position corresponding to a drilling reaction force in a circumferential direction of a tunnel, which reaction force is produced by rotation of the cutter head, and a biasing device for biasing the roof support toward the cutter head against the drilling reaction force.
