The device has a machine bed with one stationary and one movable machine unit. Roller rails (20) of both units are height-adjustable via a common drive (25). The same drive is for simultaneous height-adjustment of the hold-down brushes (32).The drive is coupled to a shaft (26). This extends in the process direction, and connects the two machine units (14,15). For each unit, the shaft has a threaded spindle (24) with a height- adjustable sleeve (30), which is indirectly fastened to the roller rail. The drive momentum is transmitted from the shaft via a herringbone gear drive (27) and two chain pulleys (28,29), to the spindle.
