The heat exchanger is esp. for an evaporator. It is made of aluminium and has collector chambers (4), each with a bottom (6) and cover (8), connected to the passes (46,48) at the inlet and outlet. Intermediate chambers (16) are formed between adjacent passes (10), and where there are three or more of the latter, adjacent ones are connected by a deflector chamber (18).Only the bottom, cover, or a single wall of a collector chamber engages in an intermediate chamber (16). Where the bottom engages in the latter, it can have a free flange (20) extending beyond the flat tubes (2), and round, on or into which the cover fits. Where there are two adjacent collector chambers, only one cover can fit in the intermediate chamber. It is joined to the other cover outside the tubes. The deflector chamber can have a deflector plate joining onto the free flange of a collector-chamber bottom.
