OPTICAL STM DEVICE AND PROBE THEREFOR

PURPOSE: To easily and certainly fix a probe for an optical STM device having an optical fiber as a nucleus to a probe holder and to obtain stable mechanical and electrical characteristics during optical STM operation. CONSTITUTION: In a probe for an optical STM device injecting a tunnel current into a sample from the leading end thereof and condensing the light from the sample to detect the same, a conductive thick film 6 is fixed to the side surface of an optical fiber 1 of which the leading end part 4 is formed into a conical shape by grinding and the thickness of the thick film 6 is set so that external stress is absorbed into the film and no damage is imparted to the optical fiber 1 of a core part. The thick film 6 is also electrically connected to the transparent conductive membrane 5 covering the surface of the conical part 4 of the optical fiber 1.
