PURPOSE: To obscure fringes by a light shielding mask and to obtain smooth images by laminating a specific leveling layer on the prism forming surface of a microprism array. CONSTITUTION: The microprism array 6 is formed by arranging many microprisms for bending the direction of the exit light from pixel elements. The leveling layer 20 which has a refractive index n4 different from the refractive index n3 of the microprisms and has smooth light exit surface is laminated on the prism forming surface of the microprism array 6. Then, virtual images P', P" shifted by a shift quantity α from the picture elements of the real image P are formed on a projection screen. As a result, the shift quantity (d) is so adjusted as to be made about 1/4 the pixel element pit of a liquid crystal panel 2, by which the picture elements are made into double images on the projection screen and, therefore, the stripes by the light shielding mask are obscured and the smooth images are obtd. |
