PURPOSE: To estimate the maximum value of the bend of a stopper with high fidelity by a method wherein distances from a certain reference position in a plurality of respectively different points at both end parts of a core bar of the stopper are measured with a distance meter and a high-degree polynominal expression is approximated on the basis of data on a distance and a position. CONSTITUTION: Positions in four points A to D which are exposed at both end parts of a core bar 2 of a stopper 1 are measured, and they are designated as XA to XD. Then, distances up to the four points A to D from a reference position are measured, and they are designed as YA to YD. At this time, the bend of the stopper is approximated by a cubic function of Y=aX<3> +bX<2> +cX+ d, XA to XD and YA to YD are substituted respectively in this expression, and coefficients (a) to (d) are found.
