PURPOSE: To efficiently perform a high-speed reproduction with high image quality and at a short updating cycle by providing a compressed data extracting means, means for deleting or replacing redundant data and means for inserting or replacing those data when encoding input video data into data for high-speed reproduction. CONSTITUTION: Concerning the digital signal of an MPEG 2 inputted from an input terminal 1, its sync byte is removed by a sync byte removing circuit 2, data are inserted to a sync block by an inserting circuit 3 as data for normal reproduction, and an additional time stamp or the like is added to them and inputted to a processing circuit 7. Besides, a signal from the circuit 2 is inputted to a separating circuit 4, a packet containing data for high-speed reproduction is separately extracted, and it is inputted to a separating circuit 5. At the circuit 5, while remaining part of the PES header of a picture the other part is deleted and the remaining part is inputted to a removing circuit 6. At the circuit 6, the data amount below a macro-block layer is deleted from the data for high-speed reproduction. The data for high-speed reproduction with the redundant data or the like deleted are inputted to a processing circuit 7, the data are rearranged in the order of recording format after adding an error correcting code, and recorded in a tape-shaped recording medium 9 by a recording head 8. |
