A joint is formed between two optical fibre cables incorporating a cylindrical copper cover, a bearer (5) for optical ribbon fibres (7) and a glass fibre strand (9) for unloading tractive force and located centrally in the bearer. At each cable end the tractive force unloader is freed from the surrounding bearer over a suitable distance and an adapter (23) is fitted on the end surface of the bearer, so that the freed end passes into a central hole in the adapter and is firmly glued. The optical fibres which are located in tracks on the bearer surface pass at the bearer end freely over a narrower part (27) of the adapter and into a hole (29) in a wider part (25), where it is firmly glued. The broader part acts thus as a fibre organiser and allows handling of the fibre ends for joining them to corresp. fibres in the other cable end. The adapter is connected with an outer joint tube (11) which is firmly soldered to the copper covers. |
