PURPOSE: To improve the visual angle characteristics in the lateral direction by differentiating the retardation of plural phase difference films to be interposed. The product Δn1 .d1 of the refractive index anisotropy Δn1 and thickness d1 of the first phase difference film 2 in particular is set larger than the product Δn2 .d2 of the refractive index anisotropy Δn2 and thickness d2 of the second phase difference film. The product Δn.d of the refractive index anisotropy Δn and thickness (d) of the liquid crystal cell 4 is preferably set in a range of 470±200μm. The difference Δ=Δn1 .d1 -Δn2 .d2 of the products of the refractive index anisotropy and thicknesses of the first and second phase difference films is preferably set in a range of 0<Δ<=50nm. |
