The recording and playing apparatus includes a housing (12), a recording and playing device (2), a control device (3-8), and a memory device. The control device controls the apparatus such that when the disk is inserted into the housing (12) an error list for the alternative function is played back from the disk.The error list is written into the memory device and data in an alternative sector, as indicated by the error list, is played back from the disk and is written into the memory device.
