The wood bit has two diametrically opposite radial cutting edges (4), each connected to a helicoidal gouger (3), and a conical threaded part (6) projecting from its tip. Each cutting edge is formed on one of two radial branches (5) of a monolithic tungsten carbide insert. The insert, which is fixed to the conical threaded tip and emerges radially from it, is located and brazed in a diametral slot (8) at the free end of the drill body. Each insert radial branch is located either side a median plane containing the tip longitudinal axis and extending radially outwards from an axial tenon (7). This tenon which is located under the tip has a smaller transverse dimension than the largest transverse dimension of the tip.
