Laser welding start and end of metal or steel strip together

Abutting cut faces of strip start and ends of steel or metal strips to be joined together are laser welded by a process in which the strip is given a skin pass, is stretcher-roller levelled, then is given a further skin pass before cutting the start and end of strips. Also claimed is a plant comprising a laser welding machine (2) preceded by a centring device (3) and upstream cutting device (3). A stretcher-roller bending device (5) is positioned between two skin pass rolling stands (6,7).
