The card has a reversible thermosensitive layer (2) acting as an optical data carrier applied to the front and/or rear surface of the card body (1). The thermosensitive layer can be applied to the surface of the card body in the form of a thin foil adhered to the card via an adhesive, or as a thermosensitive lacquer coating. The front and/or rear surface of the card body may have one or more character fields (3) for receiving the thermosensitive layer, allowing recording of visually readable characters which can be erased subsequently.
