The coffee preparation appliance includes a control knob which may be set to one of two positions by the user in order to dispense strong or normal coffee from one or other of two outlet tubes. Attached to the knob is a rocker which is arranged to close off a silicon rubber tube in one of two places according to the selection made. The conventional coffee preparation part of the appliance introduces the brewed coffee into a tube (37, 39) through an entry (28). A spring-loaded (57) toggle lever (42), pivoted about an axis (49), and connected to a selection control knob, may rest in one of two stable positions, one of which also activates a micro-switch (70). When "Espresso" is selected the toggle bar is positioned to close off the normal section (39) of the tube and the micro-switch is in the normal position, and strong coffee is dispensed through one of the outlets (37). Similarly on "Normal" the bar is toggled over to the other stable position closing off the espresso tube and delivering the less strong coffee through the other tube (39). The switch is also activated.
