When erected, the cup, mug, etc. is stabilised by a strut (18) which is hinged to the base (11) to fit in below the lower rim (22) of the outer cup ring (16) and so support this on the base. The strut can swivel round an axis (23) standing parallel to the base plane near the lower rim, and swings in below the base when not in use. A releasable connection may be provided at the free end (21) of the strut and at the lower rim of the outer cup ring as engaged by the strut. The strut may be made of an elastically flexible material which does not buckle.
