PURPOSE: To obtain a new oligonucleotide having a specific base sequence, serving as a cancer preventive/therapeutic agent through selectively acting on human cancer cells by making use of antigene method, thus useful as an active ingredient of carcinostatics with low side effects. CONSTITUTION: This new oligonucleotide (or a derivative therefrom) has a base sequence of formula I or II, acting selectively on cancer cells as an anti- sense molecule to form a triple-stranded DNA through entangling on a target gene double-stranded DNA by making use of antigene method, thus being useful as an active ingredient of carcinostatics with low side effects. The oligonucleotide (derivative) is obtained by being designed through selection from homopurine-homopyrimidine sequences existing on the upstream transfer modulation domain of cancer-specific gene p120 which widely exists in cancer cells, and by synthesis as a sequence to form an intracellular stable triple- stranded DNA with an automatic DNA synthesizer making use ofβ-cyanoethyl synthetic method.
