PURPOSE: To prevent the instantaneous breakage and disconnection by bending and impact of coated optical fibers at the time of a switching operation by providing the above device with longitudinal slits in its longitudinal direction and inserting a small-diameter cylindrical case freely slidably into a large-diameter cylindrical case. CONSTITUTION: The cylindrical case 4 on the outer side having a large diameter and the cylindrical case 5 on the inner side having the small diameter are respectively provided with the longitudinal slits 40, 50 of a prescribed width. The cylindrical case 5 is freely slidably inserted into the inner side of the cylindrical case 4 so that the overall length of the coated wire protective means 14 is made freely expandable and contractable. The overall length is shortened by housing the cylindrical case 5 into the cylindrical case 4 during the connection operation. The cylindrical case is drawn out of the cylindrical case 4 and a wide range of the coated fibers are housed therein to provide protection at the time of a waterproof treatment. Further, the outer peripheries of the respective cylindrical cases 4, 5 are freely slidably provided with plural bands 6 having the slits 60 of the prescribed width. The coated fibers are easily housed into the cylindrical case by changing the positions of the slits 60 of the bands 6, by which the removal of the coated fibers housed therein is prevented. |
