A gearbox comprises a selector shaft unit 26 including a selector shaft 24 axial and rotatably mounted in bearings 34 and 35 which are in turn rigidly mounted in a selector bracket 33. The selector shaft unit 26 is insertable as a preassembled unit into an aperture 38 of a gearbox casing 21. The selector bracket is preferably part of a fixing flange 40 which may be screwed to the periphery of the aperture 38. The selector shaft unit 26 preferably also includes an interlock yoke 67 and detents.
