PURPOSE: To improve the denseness and adhesion of sprayed coating of Ti/Al intermetallic compounds or the like by exposing the tip part to the inside of a cylindrical vessel, depositing thermal spray material electrodes oppositing each other by plural stages, feeding the space of the electrons of each pair with instantaneous large current and generating ultrahigh speed plasma jet. CONSTITUTION: Arc discharge is generated among thermal spray material electrodes 22 to 25 from an instantaneous large current power source 28, and high pressure plasma 43 under 1 to 1000 atomospheric pressure is generated at high density in a vessel 21. At this time, by the energy of arc 42, the surfaces of the thermal spray material electrodes 22 to 23 are melted to form the state of the constituting substances thereof into a fine granular one or a gaseous one (thermal spray material grains 44), which are mixed to the high pressure plasma 43 jetted from the opening 20 of a nozzle of the vessel 21 at an ultrahigh speed of 1 to several km and are sprayed on the material to be thermal-sprayed to form sprayed coating 35. At this time, it is preferable that the inside wall of the vessel 21 is composed of ceramics, furthermore, optional element feeding substances 36 are set in the vessel 21 and an operating gas is introduced therein. |
