PURPOSE: To obtain the subject splittable type conjugated fiber capable of providing ultrafine polyester fibers by weight-reducing treatment with an alkali under milder conditions and hardly causing the yarn breakage in spinning by specifying a readily alkali-soluble component. CONSTITUTION: This conjugated fiber is smoothly obtained by using (A) a modified polyester containing 2-10wt.% polyether of the formula [R1 is methyl or ethyl; R2 and R3 are each independently ethylene, isopropylene or n-butylene; X is C(CH3 )2 ; (m), (n), (o) and (p) are each an integer] and ethylene terephthalate unit as a main recurring unit as a readily alkali-soluble component and (B) a polyester component containing ethylene terephthalate unit as a main recurring unit. The conjugated fiber has a fiber cross-sectional shape in which the polyester component (B) is divided into plural parts with the readily alkali-soluble component (A). |
