Machine for preparing a stable formed article of food normally (semi-)liquid at room temperature by freezing contains numerous forming compartments (19) that can arranged together in pairs to form closed moulds. A first pair of rolls (1, 2) moves each pair of moulds in the roll mantle surface in a pre-selected sequence from a first position (L1) where the openings in the compartments face upwards, via a second position (L2) in which the compartments are arranged together to form closed moulds, to a third position (L3) in which the compartments are pulled away from each other with their openings facing downwards, before returning them to the first position. A dispenser (26) fills the compartments with the food whilst they are in the first position. A freezer unit supplies coolant to the compartments in order to form a thin frozen layer of food inside the compartments before they reach the second position, in which a second frozen layer is formed to create the food article shape. The frozen articles are removed from the compartments in the third position. |
