A separative membrane having a sufficient durability, a high permeation rate and a high separation factor with respect to various organic substances and a wide concentration range in the separation of a mixture of an organic substance with themselves or with water by pervaporation, vapor permeation or perstraction. This membrane is produced from a polyacrylonitrile copolymer composed of 90 to 97 mole % of acrylonitrile monomer units and specified comonomer units, and selectively allows water to permeate therethrough while satisfying the following conditions when the performance of pervaporation of a 5-30 mu m thick, dense, uniform membrane is determined at 70 DEG C by using an 80 wt.% aqueous acetic acid solution as a feed: QL >/= 0.5 kg. mu m/m<2>.hr, alpha >/= 10, and log alpha >/= -1.77 x log(QL) + 2.77 wherein Q represents a permeation rate (kg/m<2>.hr); L represents a membrane thickness ( mu m), and alpha represents a separation factor.
