The invention concerns a battery-operated electrical stapling device with a control circuit (26) mounted in a housing and powered by the battery (24); a rotary magnet (28) to which current can be applied via the control circuit (26); and a driver plate (20) which ejects the staples and is guided in an ejection channel (18) of a staple magazine (16) and can be made by the rotary magnet (28) to execute a motion of stroke between an upper initial stroke position and a lower final stroke position. Transmission means (22) to convert the rotary motion to the motion of stroke are provided between the drive shaft (48) of the rotary magnet (28) and the driver plate (20), the drive shaft executing a limited rotary motion. The transmission means (22) comprises preferably a cylinder (52) which can be swung by the drive shaft (48); and a slotted cam (54) which engages with the cylinder (52) and is formed in the driver plate (20).
