<p>The invention provides a method and apparatus for producing a low pressure gas discharge lamp, in which an elongated glass body (30) is inserted between a plurality of formers (32a, 32b), and the formers (32a, 32b) are moved vertically relative to one another to form the glass body (30) into a zig-zag or sinuous form and at the same time are wrapped around a hypothetical polygonal suface whilst maintaining constant the distance between initial points of contact of adjacent pairs of formers with the glass body, whereby the body is formed substantially without stretching or compression.</p> |
