Preliming sugar juice from cane or beet

Raw sugar juice extracted from beet or cane, is pre-limed. The raw juice may first be mixed with thickened carbonation slurry. The original pH of the juice or mixt. is raised in several-, pref. 3 stages, by admixture of milk of lime, up to the desired final pH value. Part of the pre-limed juice is recycled from the final stage to a preceding stage, pref. the second. Each stage has one, and pref. several chambers. In a novel stage, the recycled, pre-limed juice is enriched with oxygen before introduction to the earlier stage, to assist clarification. Also claimed is a device to carry out the above procedure.
