A wax composition for coating paper product is disclosed. The wax composition contains about 80 to 99 % by weight of a wax base and about 1 to 20 % by weight of a polymeric additive. The wax base comprises greater than 50 % by weight of a paraffin wax and no more than 30 % by weight of a fatty acid. The polymeric additive is an ethylene propylene diene methylene rubber or an ethylene-propylene rubber.
