The control device changes gear down to a lower ratio by closing an electrical circuit, during movement of the accelerator pedal. The electrical contacts closing the circuit are mounted on the vehicle accelerator pedal arm (1). The contacts may be operated by a pad (12) on the pedal arm, receiving pressure from the driver, during acceleration. Alternatively, the pad may be mounted on a frame (11) connected to the accelerator pedal, forming a rigid assembly, closing the circuit contacts between the pedal rest and full operating positions. The pad may pivot on its support frame by the operation of a return spring. This may require additional effort, greater than required on the pedal for full power. |
