A bearing press for locating or removing a component (15, 79), such as a bearing, onto or from a shaft (14, 81) comprises: i. an upright support frame (4, 44); ii. a pressure means (6, 46) for applying downward pressure to the shaft (14, 81); and iii. a support means (1, 41) for supporting the component (15, 79). Two embodiments are disclosed. The portable press (Fig. 2) comprises a threaded mounting 5 designed to receive a threaded shaft 6. The support means comprises a pair of support arms 1 pivotally mounted to the support frame. In the pedestal press (Fig. 8) the upright support frame 44 is in the form of a rectangular-section member having side walls 61 supported by a base section in the form of two forwardly and two rearwardly directed members 47.
