PURPOSE: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device in which, when a discharge lamp has gone out or is to be removed and when oscillation is started during the intermittent action of an inverter device, stresses on switching elements and unnecessary noises are reduced. CONSTITUTION: AC power E is converted into DC power at a power source portion POW, is then converted into rectangular-wave power by the alternate turning-on and -off of switching elements Q1 , Q2 , and supplied to a load circuit Z connected in parallel with both ends of the switching element Q2 and consisting of a resonant circuit 2 and a discharge lamp La. Also, a lighting determining circuit DE connected in series with one end of the discharge lamp La determines whether or not the discharge lamp La is on. As a result, a discharge lamp lighting device can be obtained in which, when the discharge lamp has gone out or is to be removed and when oscillation is started during the intermittent action of an inverter device, stresses on the switching elements and unnecessary noises are reduced. |
